Such a shame Tom Cruise was cast as Solo for the new MFU movie

It's a crying shame cause, reading Burns synopsis of the screenplay plot, it does have possibilities. (Like that they are using a real-life Cold War incident as the basis.)

But Cruise isn't Napoleon Solo, no matter what.

I have no clue about the actor cast as Illya. Not familiar with him at all.

But of course the "powers-that-be" might not even keep the Burns screenplay either. Who the hell knows at this point?

I'm confused. Burns says they didn't have cell phones back in the 1960s ---but UNCLE agents had communicators. That was the point.

Yes, but communicators were limited to those within U.N.C.L.E., and communications there would need to relay a message that needed to go to someone else. And communicators worked on a certain frequency only. If wasn't an U.N.C.L.E. device, like ones the guys occasionally got from some Thrushie (something as what happened in THE MAZE AFFAIR) -- the device had to be reconfigured to use the U.N.C.L.E. frequency.

Whereas with a cell, you can virtually contact anyone immediately. So direct access; no waiting; no intermediary; no special frequency.

One article had Cruise playing the IK part, the other guy as NS. Does anyone have the for sure details on any of this?

There was an article saying that the movie was moving forward at full production schedule now and that notes Cruise as NS and Mammer as IK. Will see if I can locate it again.

In any case, no way Cruise would be taking the second lead. So the one listing him as IK was likely off and it's the only one that suggested that scenario.

A new movie was never going to be an image of what we see in the series. I just hope they make a good movie that people can relate to. Reinventing something that is 50 years old is just like starting from scratch.
I still can't watch the Bourne Identity and relate it to the book. It's good, it just isn't BI. MFU will be like that if it's well done. It won't be OUR MFU, no matter who's in the title roles.

Looked at the link to the original incident. This is ringing a bell of a scenario that was already in another movie. Can't think of it, almost want to say a Tom Clancy plot. Hmmm, can't think of it.

Can't repeat enough how much I agree with you about the casting. Ugh.
