MFU 30-Day Meme: Day 13

Day 13 – Favorite recycled set/prop/location: that spiral metal staircase

I have to admit, unlike a lot of other folks, I don't usually notice recycled sets or props or the like. I accept them as they are forwarded to me in the episode I am watching and don't think about where (or how) I've seen them before in the series. [chuckle]

That said, this was one set piece the re-use of which I did notice in MFU. And it didn't bother me at all that it was so often recycled. In fact, I always enjoyed seeing it! [laugh]

I like spiral metal staircases in real life. I had one in the duplex apartment I moved out of a few years ago. It was hard on the feet, dangerous for kids to climb (like my nephew as back then my grandson was too little to even crawl) or even play beneath, and my daughter-in-law's pug puppy just couldn't get up those stairs by herself (she'd sit at the bottom and whimper till someone picked her up and carried her upstairs, if that's where the people had migrated). But I still loved the aesthetics of that staircase somehow. It had charm, though the only practical advantage is that it took up less floorspace that a traditional stair would have. [grin]

I always think the one on MFU nicely atmospheric, and the spiral turnings are so much more intriguing to watch folks navigate than a standard straight set of risers (plus provide for more catfoot spy-like climbing [wink}). So that metal spiral staircase is the one recycled set piece on the series that stands out for me and is truly a favorite.

That one is my favourite too. I never tire of seeing it in the different episodes.

I always notice the recycled sets and so on, but they don't bother me, they lend the show a certain old fashioned charm :)

There's an old auditorium near us, with a decorative tower--who knows why--and the tower has a black steel spiral staircase going up the outside. I grin every time we pass by.
