Day 08 – Least favorite member of UNCLE: Lisa Rogers

This gal had all the nuanced personality of an automaton. If I was Waverly, I would have been suspicious that one of those she-bots from DO-IT-YOURSELF-DREADFUL had been infilitrated by Thrush into the personnel of U.N.C.L.E. [chuckle]

I realize the role was created specifically because Leo G. was, by that time, having a lot of difficulty with memorizing lines, especially the kind of detailed exposition usually reserved for his character. However, so many other actresses that had played various U.N.C.L.E. support personnel during the course of the series brought a more interesting take to those roles than this gal did to hers.

And even though I know the actress was a former beauty queen, I don't think she was as pretty as many of the other gals the series regularly showcased. So I don't see her as possessing even that minor edge.

My preference for Waverly's permanent assistant would have been Sarah Johnson. However, I understand by Season 4 that the actress who played her likely wouldn't have been available. So my second choice would have been Heather McNabb. Why the producers thought they needed to create an entirely new character for the role, especially since there really wasn't any character at all to this babe, is beyond me.

After reading [livejournal.com profile] azdak's "The Bitch from Uncle", I have no beef with Lisa :) Though the "actress" is not good. I liked Sarah Johnson best too.

It's my impression though, that the UNCLE Girls Friday came and went in tandem with the producers' coming and going. Just sayin' ;)

That was certainly true to a certain extent, but still the character of Lisa was viewed as more permanent (and wasn't part of any casting couch). So I think it would have been preferable to consider all the previous assistants used in the series and decide on one of them as the permanent fixture.

After all, I doubt the previous actresses would have objected to only being expected to perform on screen. [cough]

It's Hollywood. They were probably considered old news by then :(
(Though the actress that played Sarah actually became a writer)

I'm not a big Lisa Rogers fan either, but it's mostly how she was portrayed on screen. I think the character is fine and like the idea that Waverly has a girl Friday but the actress was abysmal.

I think my biggest peeve was during "The Masters Touch Affair" when she was assigned to guard the model at the hotel. UNCLE doesn't have any field agents in the area so they use Waverly's secretary instead? Not that she doesn't have anything else to do taking care of the zillion thing Waverly has in the air at any one moment. That was a huge peeve for me. Can you tell?

Totally agree with this peeve!

And so Waverly, in his position, went without a secretary (assuming that a temp stand-in would not have the same security clearance as Rogers, which would seem a logical assumption) while Miss Rogers was babysitting that model gal? Totally makes no sense.

And where the heck were the Section III agents? Off playing poker? The bodyguard gig seems right up their section, as it were. [wink]

I thought I had read that the actress was also a writer, and had been involved in the show for a while. Or at least involved with someone who was involved... It's somewhere. I love the helicopter scene in Summit Five, where Illya is sort of enduring her instructions. He looks like he'd rather run her down or sling her off the roof.

Well, she is so snippy, wouldn't you want to run her off the roof too? [wink]

I think Illya got her back though with that mention about having worked before for Beldon and she obviously not knowing it and having to admit she didn't have the security clearance to know that particular bit of info about the agent. Ah, not as high up on the food chain as you thought, Miss Rogers? [chuckle]

Yes yes I agree with everything you've said, esteemed Carabele. My own gripe with Miss Rogers is that I am certain she is solely responsible for those horrible yellow and black outfits (after all she wouldn't have wanted to bother Mr W with those sort of decisions). So now she is dressed like a wasp and has the personality of one.

Oh, this description of the lady (and I use that term loosely) in question is priceless! [grin]
