I'll give this meme (http://network-command.livejournal.com/323058.html) a whirl, but don't expect my answers to be too much in depth. [chuckle]

Day 01 – Favorite season: Season 1

In general I find something to like in every season and honestly Season 2 is probably the most representative of the series as a whole (action, humor, buddy-atmosphere, huge sense of adventure). By comparison most of Season 1 is very film-noire, and not just because it was filmed in black-and-white.

But I like the edgy and somewhat more contained quality the episodes in this season possess. And, as Napoleon is my fav, I don't mind the Illya-less episodes at all (DOVE, FINNY FOOT, GREEN OPAL and IOWA SCUBA are all episodes I really like). I think FIDDLESTICKS is absolutely the best episode in the entire series. And KING OF KNAVES is, I admit, a guilty pleasure of mine. [wink]

I could honestly cite just about every episode in Season 1 as a personal treat. (Notable Exceptions: QUADRIPARTITE, GIUCCO PIANO, NEPTUNE, GIRLS FROM NAZARONE, ODD MAN, and BOW-WOW except for a few "Solo" moments)

Really? You don't like Neptune? Wait, I'm drawing a blank on this episode. I wad thinking of Iowa Scuba. But still, except for the hokey accent, NS was lookin' good in this episode.

The turnip-farmer accent Napoleon sports in NEPTUNE makes me cringe. And the innocent makes me barf. [chuckle]

NEPTUNE really is an episode I only re-watch now if I am looking for some specific bit of info that was forwarded in it with regard to U.N.C.L.E. itself or one of the guys in particular.

I agree. I don't care for Neptune either. But I do enjoy the first fifteen minutes or so of Illya in uniform and then his discussion with Solo.

I'm not too keen on Knaves, which I find a bit boring, and as it is for you, Bow Wow has way too little Napoleon. Alternatively, in Iowa Scuba and Yellow Scarf, I miss Illya.

Interesting. As you may have seen from mine, I thought it took a while for RV to grow into the role of Napoleon. I don't rewatch Iowa Scuba much, but it is well directed, the headquarters scenes are excellent, and I'm sure I've mentioned before (!) the scenes in the silo remind me of some Japanese films. But it's so old school in a way. I see it as kind of a watershed moment, because the next episode is Quadripartite, and the series jumps into the 60's. I'm surprised though, that you don't like Quadripartite and Giucco Piano more.

Fiddlesticks is wonderful.

I find both QUAD and PIANO irritating because of the innocent Marion. I really dislike her. And in PIANO I can't understand why the guys recruit her for the mission at all. There is absolutely no reason for Ravel and her lover to go after Marion at that point. She has nothing they need, and surely, surely they were smart enough to figure out that U.N.C.L.E. was using her as a decoy/dupe/bait.

I don't deny Napoleon has some iconic moments in those eps (like the one in PIANO where his is talking to Buffington at the cafe), but they just don't override the sheer ridiculousness and annoyance factor of Marion for me.

And I love Quad and Guioco because of Caillou's writing. Marion doesn't bother me either.
