Was reading the release about Daniel Day Lewis signing to play Lincoln in the upcoming Spielberg pic and went back to look at some older releases speculating on who would play John Wilkes Booth. George Clooney was in the running for the role and there were quite a few comments noting he was too old for it.

I just had to giggle. And reading that there are only two years difference in age between Johnny Depp (also in the running for the role apparently) and Clooney really made me blink. Clooney looks a decade older than Depp, so what does that say?

Clooney really isn't a truly good actor in my opinion either, so kind of a double whammy.

And here's a case as well where the lead actor changed. Last year, with the film still in those "talk" stages, it was reported the Liam Niesen (Am I spelling that name right? Well, you know who I mean...) was "definitely set to play Lincoln" in the pic. Now, closer to production the role apparently belongs to Lewis. [shrug]

And oh my, note this:

Spielberg and Dreamworks co-chairman and CEO Stacey Snider made the announcement four months after their previous leading man, Liam Neeson, withdrew from the project in July, citing his age as too large an obstacle.

Neeson is supposedly only 58 (assuming the birth date listed in his bios is correct) and Lincoln was 56 when he died, so age as an obstacle? Woah! And he is set to play LBJ in the movie Selma next year, so not like he is looking to do only smaller movies currently.
