Though I learned the basics of computer programming (my career) in a college class (COBOL, which I don't even use now), every other programming language I learned (and I know more than is probably healthy [chuckle]), I learned from reading reference books and experimenting.

You experiment with learning and figure out what works best for you in each context. Your most important attribute is perseverance.
